THE FASHION AWARDS
The Fashion Awards focuses on celebrating excellence in the fashion industry and supporting the future pipeline of creative talent. The Fashion Awards 2020 honoured and celebrated the designers, brands, creatives and individuals who have led change within the fashion industry; from those who bravely faced the challenging year with pro-active responses to the global pandemic, showed leadership and creative resilience over the past year, to the ones who stood up against prejudice within the fashion industry and fight for change. 20 honourees were recognised for humanitarian efforts, adapting business models, responding to their community’s needs as well as for leadership and creative resilience under four categories: Environment, Community, People and Creativity.
The Fashion Awards are organized by the British Fashion Council (BFC), a not-for-profit that strengthens British fashion in the global economy as a leader in responsible, creative businesses. Based in London and formed in 1983, the BFC delivers positive growth through Creativity, Responsibility and valuing all communities. This is achieved by championing diversity, building and inviting the industry to actively participate in a network to accelerate a successful circular fashion economy.
“Our aim is to continue to work in support of the United Nations in celebrating those that are setting new standards upholding the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.”
COMMITMENT TO ACTION
The British Fashion Council actively promoted the Sustainable Development Goals throughout education and marketing initiatives as well as championed them on their industry-leading global digital platforms.
PARTNERSHIP
The British Fashion Council worked with the Conscious Fashion Campaign to align the 2020 Fashion Awards Honourees with a Sustainable Development Goal to reflect their positive change leadership. The Honourees were revealed in the Fashion Awards film; a 30 minute film that brings together a selection of next generation thought leaders and creatives to share their personal perspective of the impact of 2020 and the stand-out moments of change.
INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT
Over 800 key members of the international fashion industry, spanning 28 countries, were called upon to nominate who they thought should receive an accolade.
