GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS TO ACCELERATE FASHION INDUSTRY ACTION

From July 2018 - July 2021, the Conscious Fashion Campaign created high-visibility fashion event partnerships to accelerate global industry action in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. Through advocacy, education, and engagement the campaign mobilized industry stakeholders to advance solutions for social, economic, and environmental change.

Led by social entrepreneur, Kerry Bannigan, the Conscious Fashion Campaign amplified sector innovation to create a more inclusive, equitable, and resilient world for all. The campaign partners collectively represented over 800 annual events in 40 countries hosting 12.2 million industry attendees and 136,000 exhibiting fashion, textile and lifestyle businesses.

OBJECTIVES

ADVOCACY

The Conscious Fashion Campaign championed the Sustainable Development Goals as the blueprint for a unified fashion sector to achieve a fair and inclusive industry for all.

EDUCATION

The Conscious Fashion Campaign showcased the relevance of the Sustainable Development Goals within the fashion industry, connecting the Goals to the entire value chain through conversations and convenings aimed to advance industry knowledge.

ENGAGEMENT

The Conscious Fashion Campaign collaborated with the global fashion industry to supercharge action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to reach everyone, everywhere.

TIMELINE

JULY 2018

The Conscious Fashion Campaign launched as a pilot program at the inaugural Partnership Expo hosted by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, the United Nations Office for Partnerships and the United Nations Global Compact during the Special Reception for the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development aboard the Peace Boat, the world’s largest passenger ship sailing around the world for peace, sustainability, and innovation.

The campaign highlighted the importance of fashion partnerships for transformation toward resilient and sustainable societies to attendees that included United Nations officials, representatives from Permanent Missions to the UN, Embassy officials and private sector sustainability representatives.

SEPTEMBER 2019

The Conscious Fashion Campaign officially launched during the United Nations General Assembly 74th Session after a successful pilot program in Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Lucie Brigham of the United Nations Office for Partnerships delivered the opening remarks followed by a special statement from Giulia Braga of Connect4Climate - World Bank Group.

A panel discussion led by the Conscious Fashion Campaign with representatives from the LENZING Group, Avery Dennison and EILEEN FISHER, INC explored ‘Sustainable Fashion Driving Tomorrow’s Economy’ as well as shared the Conscious Fashion Campaign one year pilot program findings.
